Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed |
The warning, according to THISDAY checks, might not be unconnected with fears in certain quarters over the alleged plan by some state governments to divert the bailout fund to pay some contractors instead of paying the salaries and allowances.
But the state NLC said in a letter to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed dated July 7, 2015 and signed by the state chairman of the NLC, Yekini Agunbiade, which was made available to journalists at the weekend, that the state government should endeavour to offset the unpaid salaries to workers and pensioners in the state so as to give them a new lease of life.
The NLC called on the governor to particularly use the money to offset June salaries to workers, pensioners, parastatals and agencies in the state.
It also said that the money should be used to settle several months of outstanding salaries of local government employees, local government pensioners and all outstanding salaries of workers in the state universal basic education board (SUBEB), especially the teaching and non-teaching staff, including all the government tertiary institutions in the state.
