The silent conflict between governor Ibikunle Amosun and Council chairmen – Local Government and Local Council Development Areas Heads – has escalated.
Most of the Council chairmen are currently grumbling hard against the administrative style of the governor.
The governor at a recent meeting in strongly worded terms charged the Council Heads to ‘’think up’’ ways to generate revenues and not rely on allocations barely able to pay salaries – after deductions to cover debts.
The tensed meeting reportedly saw the State Chief Executive Officer speak in a no-holds- back manner, in an attempt to spur the Council chairmen to action.
He accused them of portraying his administration as inactive at the grassroot with their non-performance.
Insiders however disclose rather than gear them towards proving selves, the development reportedly further alienated the governor from many of the chairmen already accused of having sympathy for political opponents.
Daily Reporters gathered the chairmen are currently grumbling that the governor orders them to work without any form of support and after the state has hijacked the bulk of their source of Internally Generated Revenues.
They claimed, sources of revenues such as permits for garages, slaughter lab, motorcycles and others such as street naming and marriage ceremonies are virtually out of the hands of the councils.
They claimed, sources of revenues such as permits for garages, slaughter lab, motorcycles and others such as street naming and marriage ceremonies are virtually out of the hands of the councils.
Despite all these development, the governor accusing them of non-performance has refused to provide funds to help them kick start operations.
Insiders, however, refute the accusations that governor Amosun did not provide any fund to the chairmen since they assumed office may be very untrue.
Daily Reporters gathered that Gov. Amosun at a point provided N2Million to each of the 57 councils and promised another round of payments.
Daily Reporters further gathered that despite the fact that the Council chairmen are seriously criticising the administrative style of the Governor, the Council chairmen are back in their Secretariats cracking their brain on what should be done to address the ugly situation'
Insiders disclosed there are strong indications that many of them will deploy agents in a frenzy of ticketing moves to cash in levies and dues the councils are empowered to collect from business owners and private citizens.
"From what I can piece together, the electorate may end up at the receiving end and that may translate the undoing of this government as election draws nearer’’ a source stated.
Checks revealed that oppositions are seriously working hard to bounce back to reckoning in the State as they are trying to corner the disgruntled chairmen and bring them to their side – especially the duo of People’s Democratic Party’s Ladi Adebutu and All Progressives Congress Solomon Adeola ‘’Yayi’’ who are on hyper mobilization drives to actualise their gubernatorial ambition.
